Dr. Jarrod Nicholas Dortch is part of a movement of Black artists and curators shining light on Black culture. He is a founding member of “The Eighteen,” a collective of local artists who made history by painting the #BlackLivesMatter mural on historic Indiana Avenue in Downtown Indianapolis. His work has been exhibited in Newfields, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, IUPUI's Herron School of Art, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Indianapolis Art Center and various other gallery spaces, festivals and events. He has also worked with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and the Lilly Day of Service to design and implement large scale murals. One of Dortch’s early mixed-media works could be viewed on a Circle Centre Mall storefront for almost three years and two newer pieces were featured at “Butter” Homecourt Edition during the 2024 NBA All Star game.. With roots in art, community, and education, Dr. Dortch is leveraging these disciplines to help promote personal and communal growth one piece at a time.
